SLUM UPGRADING AND PREVENTION STRATEGY REPORT PRESENTED TO COUNTY EXECUTIVES

The draft Slum Upgrading and Prevention Strategy 2023โ€“2035 was officially presented to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning Ms. Angela Silima, on behalf of H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasa; marking the achievement of a key milestone in Kakamega Countyโ€™s urban development efforts.

The document, developed by a consultancy team led by Dr. Philip Olale outlines a comprehensive and inclusive roadmap to guide interventions in informal settlements, aiming to promote sustainable urban growth, improve housing, and enhance essential services within slum areas.

In his address Thursday evening while receiving the report, Ms. Silima commended the consultant and all stakeholders involved in the strategyโ€™s formulation. She noted the initiative as a significant step toward building vibrant, resilient communities across Kakamegaโ€™s urban landscape.

The strategy will now undergo review by key county stakeholders before being submitted to the Governor for further scrutiny and possible adoption.

Also present during the presentation were KISIP Project Coordinator Mr. Kelvin Marangu, Mumias Municipal Manager CS Chris Ombunya, and other officials from both levels of Government.
